SEO- What is it? Why is it so important?
SEO is what determines your ranking on Google. You want your business to be the first choice that people see when they are doing an online search for goods or services that your business provides, so it is crucial that you are ranking # 1 . This article is going to share three tips on how to get this done.
1. Focus On Content
Make sure that your content is super thorough and answers all questions that the reader may have. They should walk away from your article with all questions answered and viewing your sight as the end-all sight for that particular subject.
Google uses a search algorithm called Hummingbird. Hummingbird is used to sort through all the information it has when you search and come back with answers. Hummingbird places greater emphasis on natural language queries, considering context and meaning over individual keywords. It also looks deeper at content on individual pages of a website, with improved ability to lead users directly to the most appropriate page rather than just a website’s homepage.
2. Optimize the Title and Meta Description
What is a Titleand Meta Description? Every webpage (e.g. homepage, subpage) has its own title. The page titleis laid out in HTML code and appears in the title bar of the browser. Search enginesdisplay page titles in their search results. In addition, search engines use page titles in order to recognize what information the website contains. Ideally page titles should include the search term for which the website has been optimized. A meta description(sometimes called a meta description attribute or tag) is an HTML element that describes and summarizes the contents of your page for the benefit of users and search engines. Why are meta descriptions
important to you and to your SEO rankings? Let’s say you did a search to “purchase tickets for ncaa football championship”. (example below)
You will see in the example above, that the # 1 result has a clear, concise and thorough title and meta description.
Google tracks what keywords people click on so make sure to that you have good keywords in your Title and Meta Description and that your content meets all the criteria below:
The goal of your Title and Meta Description is to invoke curiosity in the person searching so they will ultimately click on your sight. Keep the following tips in mind when you are developing your Title and Meta Descriptions.
- Use researched, targeted keywordsin your meta descriptions.
- Make sure they’re hyper-relevant to the content on each page; never use the same meta description across your whole site.
- Communicate benefits and urgency.
- Compel users to click to showing them value and appealing to emotion.
3. Utilize the Google Search Console
Did you know that Google actually provides a tool to help you rank # 1 on Google? It’s called the Google Search Console.
Google Search Console(previously Google Webmaster Tools) is a no-charge web service by Google for webmasters. It allows webmasters to check indexing status and optimize visibility of their websites. The Search Console provides you with analytics on impressions, clicks and click thru rates.
With this tool, you are able to see what keywords people are clicking on and add them to the content of your website. When you add them to your sight, make sure that they flow naturally and are appealing to the reader.
If you implement these three things you can become # 1, not only in the future but right now. I am so sure that it will start working for you that I challenge you to implement these for the next 45 days and see if they start improving your rankings on Google.
